Wielkanocne obiady na Uniwersytecie Łódzkim

Before Easter, we usually organise Easter meetings for our international students at the University of Lodz. This is a great opportunity to spend a few moments in a peaceful atmosphere, wish each other happy Easter and at the same time learn about Polish Easter customs and taste traditional Easter dishes. Nearly 200 students of the University of Lodz from all over the world took part in two Easter dinners organised last Monday and Tuesday at the University of Lodz Training and Conference Centre.

Participants of the Easter dinner together with the Vice-Rector, Prof. Robert Zakrzewski

Prof. Robert Zakrzewski, the University of Lodz Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Education was present at one of the dinners. He talked about the idea and need for such meetings and wished the students happy Easter:

It is very important to get our international students involved in various activities of the University of Lodz. Such meetings open the possibility of getting to know each other better, exchanging experiences, learning our culture and customs. That is why it is so important to be united in diversity.

The international students learned about the Polish Easter traditions and customs. Employees of the International Relations Office of the University of Lodz told them about Polish Easter customs and how Poles celebrate this holiday, e.g. about the Christmas tradition of dying Easter eggs and Wet Monday. There was also an opportunity to test one’s knowledge in a special quiz, and at the end, dye Easter eggs together.

Festive dinners, which are organised twice a year, are an Erasmus tradition. We invite students who come to us as part of student exchange, for Christmas and Easter dinners. It is an opportunity for the students to meet one another and the university authorities in a less official environment. It is also an opportunity to present traditions related to these festivals which are characteristic of our country and a time for the students to talk about themselves and the countries they come from. We have students from all EU countries, as well as from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan and South America

– said Prof. Eleonora Bielawska-Batorowicz, the UL Rector's Representative for International Exchange Programmes during one of the Easter dinners.
