HORIZONS OF THE HUMANITIES 2024: MEDIEVAL MEDICAL TEXTS

Dr Claire Burridge will shed new light on the transmission of medical knowledge between the eastern and western parts of the early medieval world. Using Latin prescriptions from the Carolingian period, she will discuss the influence of Eastern medical tradition on Western ars medica.

Dr Claire Burridge (University of Oslo) is interested in early medieval health and medicine. She is currently part of a research team working on the project entitled Minuscule Texts: Marginalized Voices in Early Medieval Latin Culture c. 700–c. 1000. Dr Burridge is responsible for analysing 'medical minitexts', such as recipes added to manuscripts otherwise unrelated to medicine.
