UŁ na II Forum Europejskich Sojuszy Uniwersyteckich w Barcelonie

The University of Lodz Vice-Rector for International Relations, Prof. Dr hab. Łukasz Bogucki is representing our university and the UNIC Alliance at the II Forum of European Universities Alliances, which started in Barcelona yesterday.

II Forum of European Universities Alliances in Barcelona

The previous, first Forum was held during the French Presidency of the European Union in June 2022. The objective of the event is to open up a space for dialogue and exchange of ideas around the most important issues currently affecting European alliances.

The participation of the University of Lodz in the event is particularly important from the perspective of the activities of alliances (not only UNIC) for Ukrainian universities. Representatives of the European Commission clearly emphasise that creating links between universities in Europe is one of the EU's priorities, also under the current Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. There are currently 50 alliances (all of them are represented in Barcelona) and the target number is 60, which will correspond to approximately 10% of European universities. The discussed topics include integration with society, the role of students and the quality of research

– says Prof. Dr hab. Łukasz Bogucki

From the very beginning of their existence, university alliances have indicated the need for meetings both between alliances and with representatives of the European Commission, EU Member States, students and other representatives of leading institutions on our continent.

A characteristic building in Barcelona dating back to the early 20th century, which is a part of the city's industrial heritage, was chosen as the venue for the 2nd Forum. It once housed a textile factory, today it is a space for creativity. Just like the Alliances of European Universities, it is a symbol of the modernisation and transformation of institutions that are necessary to adapt to the challenges that modern times bring about to societies.
