Medale dla naukowców UŁ za działania na rzecz Łodzi

Yet another gala of awarding medals for activities for the development of Lodz was held at the Museum of the City of Lodz. The medals are awarded on the occasion of the city's 600th anniversary. The honorees include people associated with the University of Lodz.

The award galas were held on 10 and 19 July in the Mirrors Room of the Museum of the City of Łódź. During the ceremony, a total of 176 residents of Lodz were awarded. The awards were also presented to the University of Lodz scientists and people cooperating with the University of Lodz. The honorees include:

  • Dr Ewa Boryczka (Faculty of Economics and Sociology) was honoured for scientific activity that helps to improve Lodz and revitalise it in a smarter way; 
  • Prof. Dr hab. Jolanta Daszyńska (Faculty of Philosophy and History) was honoured for many years of academic work, as well as for a huge effort in the field of historical reconstruction, with particular emphasis on the Battle of Łódź; 
  • Dr Justyna Groblińska (Faculty of Philology) was honoured for great merits in the field of humanities, including the work "Nieoficjalne nazewnictwo miejskie Łodzi. Słownik"; 
  • Dr hab. Tomasz Jurczak, Associate Professor (Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection) was honoured for academic work and a huge effort to improve the quality of Lodz water reservoirs and for social and ecological activities, thanks to which Lodz can develop better environmental standards; 
  • Dr Karolina Kołodziej (Faculty of Philology) was honoured for many years of academic work at the University of Lodz and for literary work that helps, among others, the youngest inhabitants of Lodz to discover their city; 
  • Alicja Korytkowska (University of the Third Age in Lodz) was honoured for many years of work and merits for the University of Lodz and for creating and running one of the best universities of the third age in Poland; 
  • Dr hab. Jakub Kronenberg, Associate Professor (Faculty of Economics and Sociology) was honoured for many years of excellent academic work and scientific contribution to the development of the city, especially its green areas; 
  • Dr Lech Leszczyński (Faculty of Chemistry) was honoured for many years of merit for Lodz sport, in particular Lodz athletics, and for promoting Academic Lodz; 
  • Dr hab. Aleksandra Nowakowska, Associate Professor (Faculty of Economics and Sociology) was honoured for her huge achievements in the field of spatial planning and city management, which Lodz can benefit from; 
  • Dr Agnieszka Rzeńca (Faculty of Economics and Sociology) was honoured for academic activity and for combining scientific potential with supporting urban development, which Lodz has also had the opportunity to take advantage of; 
  • Dr Mateusz Szurek (Faculty of Philology) was honoured for scientific activity, especially for his work for the benefit of Lodz residents, people with speech, voice and communication disorders – children and adults; 
  • Maciej Świerkocki (winner of the Memorial Prize of the First Rector of the University of Lodz Professor Tadeusz Kotarbiński 2023) was honoured for the new translation of "Ulysses", which opened this legendary book to new generations of readers

The medals for residents of Lodz are a part of the celebrations of the 600th anniversary of granting municipal rights to Lodz. The candidates for the award were proposed by the inhabitants of Lodz, and the jubilee medals were awarded by a specially appointed jury. By the end of the year, during special ceremonies, a total of 600 residents who actively work for our city will have been awarded. The campaign is a form of honouring and expressing thanks for their hard, selfless work.

We would like to remind you that during the first gala, which was held in June, the medals were awarded to the following persons who are associated with the University of Lodz:

  • Maria Nowakowska (University of Lodz Doctoral School of Humanities) who was honoured for promoting the heritage and history of Lodz, in particular its architecture; 
  • Dr Małgorzata Kostrzyńska (Faculty of Educational Sciences) who was honoured for work for those most in need – lighting up a lamp of education, which for many is a light at the end of the tunnel
  • Prof. Dr hab. Krzysztof Skotnicki (Faculty of Law and Administration) who was honoured for a huge contribution to the development of constitutional law in Poland and for many years of building good Polish-Czech relations.
