Psia Kość! Listopadowa zbiórka UŁ dla bezdomnych zwierząt

It’s the 12th edition of our university’s campaign "Psia Kość!" as part of which we have been supporting four-legged residents of the Animal Shelter in Lodz. Throughout November we are collecting gifts for the animals. What do we need? First of all, pet food, especially specialised pet food, as well as blankets, pillowcases and towels.

Marked gift boxes will be placed in more than 30 locations of the University of Lodz:

  • at all the faculties of the University of Lodz,
  • in the University of Lodz Library,
  • at the University of Lodz dormitories
  • and in the Rector's Office building.

As every year, also the University of Lodz Kindergarten as well as the Righteous Among the Nations State Secondary School of the University of Lodz are joining the campaign.

What animals need most is good pet food, especially specialised pet food. Why? This is what Marta Olesińska, director of the Animal Shelter in Lodz, who visited the University of Lodz together with the dog called Maczeta, talked about last year:

Good quality maintenance pet food, i.e. with high content of meat is the best gift for the four-legged residents of the shelter (of course apart from a new, responsible home). The better the quality of the food, the better healthier and happier the animals. It's not true that a dog or a cat that stays in a shelter will eat anything. Therefore, as in life, let's not focus on quantity, but on quality.

Blankets, pillowcases and towels will also come in handy.
However, the shelter does not accept duvets, pillows, mattresses, sponges, carpets, rugs, sleeping bags or clothing.

They might be dangerous for animals, because if, for example, an animal bites a pillow, it may swallow the contents, which may cause huge problems. Only straw, which does not absorb moisture, is placed in the kennels, not textiles. We would also like to ask you to bring metal bowls, not plastic ones, as the plastic ones quickly become chew toys

– explains the director of the shelter.

University of Lodz helps animals!

The Psia Kość! campaign at the University of Lodz is an annual donation collection for the Animal Shelter in Lodz that is organised in November. University of Lodz, as a socially responsible university, has been supporting four-legged residents of the shelter for many years. As part of its eleven editions, we have collected about 5 tons of food, as well as blankets, medicines, toys and accessories needed for dogs and cats.
Additionally, in June 2019, a special edition of the campaign was held. It was aimed at educating and raising awareness of the adoption of homeless animals, dispelling myths about adoption and presenting various forms of assistance. We organised a meeting with representatives of the Animal Shelter in Lodz, the Załoga Bulldoga and the Kocia Mama Foundations, during which we talked about the situation of animals in shelters and about adoption. Our student, who specialises in dog therapy, talked about the influence of dogs on reducing stress in people. In 2020, the Lodz University of Technology joined our campaign and collected almost 100 kg of pet food. We are very happy that this initiative is developing.

Join the Psia Kość! campaign and help animals in need!
