Zdalny tłumacz Polskiego Języka Migowego – nowa funkcja na stronach UniLodz

An online Polish Sign Language interpreter service is available on the UniLodz website as of January 2024. This is yet another solution introduced by our university, aimed at eliminating barriers in access to higher education for people with disabilities or special needs.

Polish Sign Language (PJM  – Polski Język Migowy), which has a grammar and syntax different from Polish is the first language of deaf people. Therefore, deaf people have difficulty understanding texts written in Polish, and a person who does not know the sign language has difficulty understanding the order of sentences written by a deaf person.

In order to eliminate this communication barrier, as of January 2024, a widget which is a connection to the PJM translator, is available on the University of Lodz website. This function allows immediate video calls with a sign language interpreter from the level of a web browser, mobile application or any device equipped with a camera and connected to the Internet. The service is available free of charge from Monday to Sunday from: 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The widget for connecting to the Migam translator is located in the footer of the page.

As a diverse, open and tolerant university, we want every person belonging to our academic community to feel an important part of it. We care about ensuring accessibility for people with special needs in the architecture, digital and information and communication areas.
