Środki z IDUB szansą dla naukowców na rozwój. W 2022 r. UŁ przekazał 8 mln. zł.

Internal IDUB grant competitions support conducting reliable research at the University of Lodz. They are a part of the pursuit of research excellence, which, according to the University's Strategy 2021-2030, alongside internationalisation, is one of the priorities of the University of Lodz. The university consistently works to strengthen its position within the international academic community, and the organisation of internal grant competitions is one of the tools for achieving this goal. In 2022, as part of IDUB, University of Lodz has provided almost PLN 8 million for all activities supporting research ideas and awards to outstanding researchers.

University of Lodz consistently uses funds from the additional subsidy of the ministerial competition Excellence Initiative – Research University (IDUB) for scientific development and research, as well as bonuses for scientists for the obtained external grants and patents. Funding was also set aside in 2022 for scholarships for Ukrainian students and special awards for scientists for their exceptional contribution to the evaluation of the university.

The pie chart on the board illustrates the distribution of funds for: grants PLN 3,343,834.25 (42%); bonuses for grants, publications, scholarships: PLN 2 302 799.64 (29%) and awards for researchers: PLN 2,319,400 (29%). In total PLN 7,966,033.8 from IDUB.
 

The university has earmarked the impressive amount of PLN 7,966,033.8 to support the implementation of the best research ideas and awards for top-performing scientists and scholarships in 2022.

Grant competitions

In 2022, three competitions were organised to obtain grants for research. Researchers from the University of Lodz applied for grants in the total amount of PLN 8,082,327.67. The budgets of grant programmes made it possible to finance projects for PLN 3,343,834.25. One hundred and twenty-two applications were submitted, 55 of which received the funding.

Interdisciplinary Research Grants

Grants in the amount of: PLN 1,978,059.00

It is a basic research competition which is addressed to all researchers. The main objective of the competition is the cooperation of scientists from the University of Lodz who specialise in different fields and scientific disciplines. The application manager should be a person whose discipline is the leading one in the proposed project. The projects qualified for funding must be interdisciplinary in nature, and application for external funds will be one of the conditions for their settlement.

Grants for Young Researchers

Grants in the amount of: PLN 593,006.38

It is a competition for research projects conducted by young scientists who want to implement their research ideas in any scientific discipline. The programme is devoted to basic and applied research and supporting mobility of young researchers. The goal of the competition is to activate the community of young scientists and support their development.  

Doctoral Research Grants

Grants in the amount of: PLN 772,768.87

They are research grants for students of the doctoral studies and participants of doctoral schools of the University of Lodz who plan to implement their original research ideas in any discipline of science. The programme is devoted to basic and applied research and supports mobility of a young scientist.

Bonuses and Scholarships

Bonuses for grants obtained from external funding 64 research teams received a total of PLN 413,699.64.

The goal of the Bonuses for Grants competition is to award individual researchers/research teams from the University of Lodz that obtain projects financed from external sources in any discipline of science most efficiently. The bonuses apply to academically active staff and are intended to motivate further applications, including those within prestigious international competitions. The bonus is paid to the Manager or the Team in the total amount of 1% of the project value from the funds obtained for the University of Lodz.

 

Scholarships for Researchers from Ukraine were received by 26 researchers in the total amount of PLN 833,100.

The competition is an expression of solidarity with Ukrainian academic community and is created to support the best researchers from Ukraine. The main goal of the competition is to enable researchers to come to the University of Lodz to conduct research, which in turn will contribute to strengthening the scientific potential and development of our university. These activities are furthermore in line with one of the strategic objectives of the University of Lodz, namely, to increase the degree of internationalisation.

 

Bonuses for Publications and Patents – bonuses totalling PLN 1,056,000 were paid in 2022

 

Special awards

In connection with the evaluation of the university, which was completed in 2022, special prizes were awarded for exceptional contribution to the evaluation of the University of Lodz. The prizes were awarded 275 times in the total amount of PLN 2,319,400.

 

The Excellence Initiative – Research University (#UniLodz IDUB) – grant competitions under which the University of Lodz funds research ideas of its scientists and doctoral students. By supporting them in conducting high quality research, the university implements a strategy of striving for research excellence in all fields and disciplines. The competitions also serve the purpose of internationalisation – developing and strengthening the university's cooperation with international researchers. As part of grants addressed to scientists from outside the university, experienced and young researchers join the University of Lodz team. This favours the fusion of experiences and increasing the university's scientific potential, supports networking and staff mobility.  

The grants are financed as part of the subsidy increased by 2% for the universities that joined the IDUB competition in 2019. University of Lodz will receive additional funding for research until 2026. Internal grant competitions have been implemented since 2020.
